Recommendations for screen use in young athletes were developed in collaboration with the Logout Center for digital wellbeing, the City of Ljubljana, and the Slovenian Psychologists' Association - Sports Psychology Section.

We are delighted to present a document that was created at the initiative of the City of Ljubljana - Department of Sport, and which represented a 6-month exciting journey and experience for which we are very grateful.

The purpose of the recommendations for screen use in young athletes is to offer practical and professionally substantiated advice that will help young athletes, their parents, coaches, and sports clubs understand the impact of screens on young athletes.

With these recommendations, we want to encourage all stakeholders to use screens responsibly and, consequently, to support the healthy and successful development of young athletes. The recommendations are based on the latest research and on feedback from Slovenian sports coaches, parents, and young athletes.

This manual is designed to provide coaches, parents, sports psychologists, sports association management, and young athletes with practical tools and recommendations for using screens at the national level.

Although the Guidelines for Screen Use in Children and Adolescents in Slovenia (Vintar Spreitzer et al., 2021) have been prepared by Slovenian pediatricians, they do not include recommendations for screen use in the context of sports training and competition, which is an environment with specific characteristics and challenges where young people spend a lot of time.
